Music

We will enjoy some very good music at our wedding. Since I'm a classical musician and Bill is a jazz fan, we'll have some of each.

Ceremony - Classical

For the ceremony, we'll have classical music, both vocal and instrumental. The processional will be the tenor and baritone duet from the Pearl Fishers, an extraordinarily gorgeous piece of music.

Our musicians for the ceremony are:

I met Christine, as well as the minister for our wedding ceremony, Marie Goodyear, while singing in the Deer Park United Church chamber choir last year. I played piano with Marcia at Gatsby's restaurant. I played cello in a band with Alberts and his wife, Maria Thorburn, who have just had a baby boy! Ines, Marianne, Maria and I perform together, for concerts and for weddings and special events, in the Bellamusica Chamber Ensemble.

Our music for the ceremony is:

  • Au fond du temple saint (Pearl Fishers) - Georges Bizet
  • O mio babbino caro - Giacomo Puccini
  • Ave Verum Corpus - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • The Lord's Prayer - arr. Carl Deis
  • Meditation from Thaïs - Jules Massenet
  • Gloria - Antonio Vivaldi

Most of these pieces are just a few minutes long, so the entire ceremony is expected to be about three-quarters of an hour long.

Cocktails - Jazz

During cocktails and dinner, Marc Auguste Jr. will play solo jazz piano. Marc studied jazz at McGill. When I did my master's there in classical piano, I took jazz courses and attended jazz concerts, so I know they have a good program and appreciate having a graduate playing at our wedding.

Music with Speeches

Instead of a long speech session, we'll have three short intervals with speeches and music.

  • Julie Hunchak, my niece, will play the piano
  • Helen Lee, daughter of my Matron of Honour, Alison, will play the harp
  • Aurora Kruk, daughter of my cousin, Ricky Kruk, will sing, with Dave Lee on guitar

Dance Band

The band for our wedding is The Fabulous Harvey Seigel Band. This is a top-notch band of seasoned professional musicians. They play jazz, swing, Latin, rhythm & blues and ballroom music. The band will play from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. The musicians will be:

  • Danny McErlain - keyboard
  • Mike Allen - guitar/electric bass
  • Jimmy Amaro - bass
  • Bruce Farquhar - drums
  • Kathryn Moses - female vocals/tenor sax/flute
  • Al Cox - trumpet/flugel horn
  • Harvey Seigel - trombone/male vocals

Six of the band members who will play for our wedding

Saskatoon Dance Band

For our reception in Saskatoon on July 24, our band providing dancing music will be Andy Tokaryk's seven-piece old-time Ukrainian dance band.
